I have had 3 carpet quotes recently and none compared to V & A Carpets. Their knowledge, sound advice and professionalism shone through. They arrived on time with a wide range of samples including underlay. They advised on a type of carpet to have by my front door to further protect my carpet. The carpet samples themselves were of a higher quality than the other 2 companies. 5 star service.

We had our entire house carpeted by V&A Carpets as well as Luxury Vinyl Tiles for our hallway and kitchen/Utility. The quality of the carper and LVT is absolutely fantastic. With the kids running round all the time we are really happy with the investment. We returned to V&A for our front door and rear Mats which were fantastic also. Would definitely recommend V@A, a great local business.

Westex Velvet Carpet

Who are Westex Flooring & What makes Westex Flooring special?

All Westex carpets come with Stain resistance, keeping the carpet looking newer for longer. This stain-resist treatment will prevent the majority of water-based and oil spills from soaking into the fibres by enabling them to bead on the top for a short time, giving you time to attend to any easily removed stains.

Multi width – to reduce waste carpet when ordering, coming is width variations such as 1m, 3m, 3.66m, 4m, 4.75m & 5m widths. Not only that, Westex are the only manufacturer who guarantees exact colour matching throughout the different widths.

Fresh Guard – A treatment which neutralises pet odours and inhibits mould by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. This means that the pile is so dense, that these bacteria cannot get all the way down to the bottom of the pile, where the hoover struggles to get to. Westex Carpets are also uniquely set in that when their piles of yarn get longer, it also gets denser at the same time to keep this Fresh Guard intact.

Allergy Guard – Protects against pests, bacteria and allergens, by not allowing debris (human skin, hair etc) to decay into the food that dust mites thrive upon. Making an environment where they cannot exist. This is similar to the Fresh Guard above. While their uniquely treated yarn doesn’t allow these pests to survive as they cannot survive on the yarn, they also stay close to the surface to be hoovered up as they cannot get to the bottom of the dense pile.

Made in Britain, they are luxurious carpets while being extremely hardwearing. This is portrayed by the fact that they are trusted by some of the biggest names of luxury items to maintain their images. Such examples are Harrods, Ferrari, Paul Smith, Bentley, P&O Ferries, Alexander McQueen and many more to be used in their showrooms or places of business.

Are Westex Flooring’s Carpets moth proof?

Wool is naturally very resilient, with excellent recovery, it springs back to form so is ideal in high traffic areas. Westex applies a permanent, Moth Guard treatment to all their carpets, “Moth Guard protects your carpet against the attack of both carpet moth and other wool eating insects”- says Westex Flooring. “The active ingredient in the moth-guard makes the keratin (a protein found in wool) that moths, bugs and other insects thrive upon, indigestible. They literally starve as their digestive systems are unable to convert the keratin they have eaten into usable food.” Meaning they won’t be able to have a full cycle and reproduce. Is it safe? Safety to humans has been paramount in the design of the moth guard product Westex uses. It has had the full rigorous scientific testing, both toxicologically and ecologically, to establish that there is no harm to human health or pets.

Why do I have to order 4 meter width?

Almost all carpet suppliers manufacture carpets at 4 meters wide then we order the length that is required (usually up to 30 meters, depending on the type of carpet). This is due to the machinery used in the manufacturing process. Westex Flooring is the one supplier have multi-width options, which can be 1m, 2.5m, 3.66m, 4m, 4.57m, and 5m widths. We will always consider the option to save you the most money and reduce waste. When we measure your area, we aim to minimise waste by (where possible) utilising offcuts from rooms to do stairs and offering a service to make your offcuts into rugs, by edging the carpet. These are handy to use as doormats to protect your new carpet where there is foot traffic from an outdoor area. We hate waste as it’s bad for the environment and your wallet. Sometimes it can’t be avoided but if a small join or running the pile a different way can make a significant difference, we will give you the choice.

Twist Pile Carpet

Twist Carpets

Twist carpets are threads of yarn that have been spun numerous times to keep the spring in the thread of yarn and to keep them bouncing back to their original shape, as the name mentions. But the important things to know are that these are usually the short pile carpets for heavy traffic areas. Twist carpets are normally the carpets preferred in hallways, stairs and landings, and other heavy traffic areas in the home. As these threads are shorter and normally fairly dense to ensure the pile doesn't fall over or compress as easily, they will look better for longer. A twist carpet is the style of carpet, and they come in Wool & polypropylene (man-made fibre which is bleach cleanable). Wool twist carpets are generally found in an 80/20 form, with the 80% being the wool content, and a couple of manufacturers that do make 100% wool twist carpet, but they are rare these days. 80/20 Wool mix carpets are still one of the strongest and best-selling carpets in the UK as they are durable, and softer than their looped carpet counterpart.

Saxony Carpets

Saxony carpets are the deep & luxurious style of carpets. These are also made in a similar manner to twist carpets, but the threads are longer, allowing them to fall over or give way much more than a standard short pile twist carpet. This creates and fantastic feeling underfoot, giving it that luxurious feeling. If you want comfort underfoot when getting out of bed in the morning, or want a lounge carpet you like to sit or lie on, this would be the style of carpet to look at. While some are denser than others, helping them to keep their shape, they won't look as good as a twist carpet in the years to come. These are mainly made out of polypropylene and sometimes mixed with other softer fibres such as a polyimide or polyester. The key element to look out for in a Saxony carpet is density. The denser it is, the better it will look for longer. You see footmarks and hoover lines with Saxony carpets, but the less dense the carpet is, the more extreme the effect will be.

Looped Pile Carpet

A textured carpet or a looped pile carpet is a favourite in many a home. These are threads that have not only been spun ut are now spun together to make one, very strong thread. These are woven into one another in various styles to create a very strong carpet. A looped pile carpet is generally made from wool, but can be found in some 50/50 mixtures and then a few in a man-made version. The wool version is definitely the most popular. The way they are constructed allows them to look better for longer, and they are woven into each other and no loose bristles to be compressed, they are less affected but high traffic, visually. The downside of a loop is that if you have a pet that lends to play with the carpet or you get something caught on a strand and pull on it, the thread can be pulled out if pulled hard enough. They are also not anywhere near as soft and comfortable as a Saxony and twist pile carpet. They can happen but is extremely rare. Normally avoid them if you have cats, but they are generally a great carpet to have if you wanted something to last.
